A chargeback reverses a debit card payment that went wrong, such as a double charge or a card used without permission. For any Tonybet payment question, live chat is the faster first step.
A chargeback is your bank reversing a card payment that went wrong: a deposit taken twice, money that never reached your balance, or a card used without your permission. It is not a way to recover money lost on games. For any Tonybet payment problem, live chat is the quickest fix.
This chargeback guide for Ireland looks at the process the way your bank sees it. Every Irish card issuer handles disputes under Visa or Mastercard rules, and the CCPC is clear about the order: ask the business to put it right first, then go to the bank if it is not sorted. At Tonybet that first step is live chat, and most payment questions end there.
Since 5 February 2026 credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Ireland, so every card deposit at Tonybet is a debit card payment. Whether your account is with AIB, Bank of Ireland, PTSB, Revolut, N26 or An Post Money, the rules below are debit card rules.
Charged twice
Two identical debits for one deposit are often a pending authorisation that falls away on its own. Bank of Ireland notes that a merchant can cancel a transaction within 5 days, before it completes, and the line simply disappears. If both settle, it is a textbook dispute case.
Card used without permission
This is not really a chargeback but a statutory claim under the Payment Services Regulations 2018. Tell your bank without undue delay, and no later than 13 months after the debit date.
Deposit missing from balance
Money left your account but the Tonybet balance did not move. Send the chat agent the date, the amount and the last four digits of the card. Unsettled, it is the classic "paid but not received" case.
Money lost in games
A bet placed and settled under the game rules is a service that was delivered. Banks do not treat that as an error, and PTSB excludes gambling transactions from its customer dispute forms entirely.
How a Chargeback Works: a Worked Example in €
A player deposits €50 at Tonybet with a Bank of Ireland Visa debit card to take the first part of the welcome offer: 100% up to €750, which at the €50 to €149.99 step also brings 50 bonus spins. The banking app then shows two €50 debits on the same day, while the Tonybet balance shows one €50 deposit plus the €50 bonus.

Only the second €50 is in question. The first deposit arrived, the bonus arrived with it, and anything played from that balance is ordinary play. The claim is €50, not €100.
Days 1 to 3: wait for the pending line
Duplicate lines are often authorisations that never settle. The second €50 may simply vanish from the statement.
Day 4: open Tonybet live chat
Share the date, the amount, the last four card digits and a screenshot of the bank line. The agent can check whether the second payment was actually captured and arrange the fix. Keep the chat transcript, since it is your written proof of contacting the business.
Day 20: raise a card dispute if it is still open
Bank of Ireland accepts chargebacks within 120 days of the transaction and asks for supporting documents. PTSB asks you to wait 15 calendar days after the transaction before raising a duplicate-charge dispute.
Days 20 to 65: the merchant replies
According to Revolut's published process, the merchant has 30 days to respond on a Visa transaction and 45 days on Mastercard. If it agrees or does not respond, the refund goes through.
Result: €50 back on the card
Revolut says up to 85% of disputes are resolved within 5 weeks and complex ones can take up to 12. The first €50 and the bonus stay exactly where they were.
Live chat can settle the same €50 in one conversation, while the bank route takes weeks and still ends with the casino being asked for its side. That is why chat comes first in this chargeback guide. The exception is card theft: if someone else used your card, call your bank straight away.

Chargeback Myths Irish Players Still Believe
Six things we hear often, and what the banks and the CCPC actually say.
A chargeback gets back money lost on slots.
Losses from games played under their rules are not a card error. The service was delivered, so the bank has nothing to reverse.
A credit card would give me more protection.
Credit cards have been banned for gambling in Ireland since 5 February 2026. Tonybet takes Visa and Mastercard debit cards only.
The bank has to refund whatever I dispute.
The bank can request a chargeback, and the merchant can answer it with evidence. The European Consumer Centre Ireland says plainly that there are no guarantees.
I can dispute a deposit whenever I like.
Bank of Ireland and PTSB give 120 days, N26 90 days in its app. Only unauthorised payments run to 13 months.
It is faster to skip the casino and go to the bank.
The CCPC and PTSB both ask you to contact the business first, and you need that written exchange as evidence. Live chat is also the quicker fix.
A chargeback goes through quietly and I keep playing.
The casino is notified. An account with an open dispute is normally reviewed and can be restricted until it closes, as at any licensed operator.
Card Disputes at Bank of Ireland, AIB, PTSB and the App Banks

For a card dispute with Bank of Ireland, the help centre confirms the 120-day window and asks for proof that you contacted the retailer. AIB debit cards run on Visa: the AIB dispute pages offer a two-page dispute form or the Question a Transaction form in AIB Mobile Banking, and warn of strict time limits without printing a number.
PTSB publishes a 120-calendar-day limit, a 15-day wait before some dispute types, and a clear exclusion of gambling transactions from its dispute forms. For a PTSB customer, then, a chargeback on a casino deposit is off the table, and Tonybet support is the route. N26 raises a Mastercard chargeback from the transaction screen and blocks the card as soon as you submit. Revolut's help centre gives the 5-to-12-week timeline quoted above.
Paid with an e-wallet or crypto?
A Skrill or Neteller payment is disputed with the wallet, through its published complaints procedure, not with your bank. The card chargeback covers only the card payment that topped the wallet up. Payz, Jeton, MiFinity and AstroPay work the same way. Crypto transfers have no card scheme behind them, so there is no chargeback route at all: check the address twice and ask live chat about any deposit that does not show.
Why It Matters to You as a Player
A casino chargeback in Ireland is a legitimate consumer tool, and knowing when to use it saves time and keeps your account in good order.
Time
Live chat can settle a missing deposit in one conversation. A Tonybet payment dispute run through a bank takes weeks.
Your account
A chargeback tells the operator that a payment is contested, so the account is usually reviewed and may be paused until the case closes. Every licensed casino works this way.
Your evidence
Banks want to see that you tried to resolve things with the business. A saved chat transcript, the bank statement line and the deposit record in the Tonybet cashier history are usually all you need.
If the urge behind a chargeback is to undo losses, the better tools are the limits on your account. Tonybet lets you set deposit and session limits, take a time-out or self-exclude, and since September 2025 AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB offer a voluntary block on debit card gambling payments through the Irish Banking Culture Board.
Chargeback — the reversal of a card payment by the cardholder's bank under Visa or Mastercard scheme rules, after a dispute that the merchant did not resolve or could not defend with evidence.
It differs from a refund, which the merchant starts itself, and from an unauthorised-payment claim, which is a legal right under Regulations 95 and 97 of the European Union (Payment Services) Regulations 2018 with its own 13-month limit.
In practice this chargeback guide for Ireland comes down to three routes. Payment slips go to Tonybet live chat, card fraud goes straight to your bank, and a dispute that neither side could settle becomes a chargeback within the bank's window.
If the bank turns a dispute down, make a formal complaint to it. The bank has 40 working days to resolve it and must then issue a final response letter. After that the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman can investigate free of charge, normally for events within the last six years. Before any of that, the fast route is a message to Tonybet support from your account.
Chargeback Questions From Irish Players
Can I do a chargeback on a Tonybet deposit in Ireland?
Yes, where the payment itself went wrong: a deposit taken twice, money debited but never credited to your balance, or a card used without your permission. Contact Tonybet live chat first, because the CCPC expects you to give the business the chance to fix it, and most payment slips are sorted there. A chargeback does not cover money lost in games played under their rules.
How long do I have to dispute a debit card payment?
Bank of Ireland and PTSB accept disputes within 120 days of the transaction, and the CCPC puts the usual range at 90 to 120 days. N26 allows 90 days through its app. A payment you never authorised has a separate statutory limit: tell your bank without undue delay and no later than 13 months after the debit date.
Will a chargeback get back money I lost playing?
No. A spin or a hand that was placed and settled under the game rules is a service that was delivered, so there is no card error to reverse. PTSB goes further and excludes gambling transactions from its customer dispute forms.
What happens to my Tonybet account if I file a chargeback?
The casino is told about the dispute, and an account with an open chargeback is normally reviewed and may be restricted until the case closes. That is standard practice at every licensed operator, not a Tonybet quirk.
How do I dispute a Skrill or Neteller payment?
Through the wallet itself. Skrill and Neteller each publish a formal complaints procedure, and the card chargeback only applies to the card payment that topped up the wallet. The same principle applies to Payz, Jeton, MiFinity and AstroPay.
What if my bank refuses the chargeback?
Make a formal complaint to the bank. It has 40 working days to resolve it and must then send a final response letter. If you are still unhappy, the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman can review the case free of charge, normally within six years of the problem.
Can I stop my debit card being used for gambling?
Yes. Since September 2025 AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB offer a voluntary block on debit card gambling payments, launched through the Irish Banking Culture Board. On Tonybet itself you can set deposit and session limits, take a time-out or self-exclude, and the support team can help with any of them.
